Marian Louise Freed Cain, 91, of Martinsburg, WV, died on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born on June 4, 1925, in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Earl and Florence Virgie Wolford Freed.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School, Class of 1943, and from Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.
She was a member of the U. S. Nurse Corp. 1943-1946; worked as a registered nurse at Washington County Hospital 1946-1949; and at the Veteran’s Administration Center from 1949 until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, she worked at Boltz’s Hardware and Martinsburg Walmart.
She was a member of District #6, W.Va. Nurses Association, Member of National Association of Federal Retirees; and a member of AARP.
During her retirement, she worked as a Tour Host for Educational Travel Services of Lakeland, Florida. She was an avid traveler and had visited thirty-nine of the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii, and also traveled to England, Scotland, Wales, Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Russia, Finland, Monte Carlo, Switzerland, Israel, Syria, Jordan, Greece, Morocco, Egypt, Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico, Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, New Zealand, Panama Canal, Isle of Capri, Islands of Bermuda, Bahamas, San Juan, St. Thomas, Martinique, Jamaica. San Blas Curacao, Principalities of Liechtenstein and San Moreno. Since 1985, she had made annual trips to Aruba.
She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, H. Dennis Cain and wife, Gail L., of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Douglas H. Cain and wife, Lynece G. of Tarentum, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Kandi, Kristopher, David, Justin Mason, Miles, and Morgan,; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Cain; a brother, Samuel Earl Freed, Jr.; a grandson, Kevin Allen Cain.
Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to funeral services that will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home, with Pastor John Yost officiating.
Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 700 New York Ave., Martinsburg, WV 25401.
