Obituary for Elaine D. Miller (McDaniel)

Elaine D. Miller, 88, of Allensville Road in Hedgesville passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 4, 2016.

She was born in Martinsburg, June 15, 1928 , the only daughter of the late Clyde and Helen Gettle McDaniel.

Elaine was a graduate of Martinsburg High School. She had been employed at Perfection Garment Factory, the Sally Shop, and retired in 1997 from the Vet Center.

On August 15, 1946 she married Alvin Miller. They shared their life together for 57 years until his death in 2003. Her son George Miller died in 2008 and daughter, Linda Stewart in 2013.

Elaine was a life-time and devoted member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church, where her mother was a charter member. Her faith in God sustained her throughout her life and brought her grace. She was proud of her church heritage. She had strong principles, she believed in and lived her life by and she touched so many lives in so many ways.

Elaine had many hobbies. She was a wonderful cook and loved sewing and quilting. Her happiest times were spent in her beautiful yard and flower gardens. But nothing was more important than family and she loved sharing stories from her childhood. From her early days she would recall the dinners, picnics, and family outings to the park. One of her favorites was telling how the family did not have material items - but always knew they were loved.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Gary W. Miller of Hedgesville; son-in-law, Charles Stewart of Oak Hill, WV; and brother, Ellsworth McDaniel and wife, Dot of Martinsburg. She is also survive by 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and children she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Kenneth, and Jack McDaniel.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00MP at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00AM at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Benjamin Manning officiating.

Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
