Obituary for David Douglas Matthews Sr.

David Douglas Matthews Sr.
David Douglas Matthews Sr., comedian, amazing handy man, singer, dancer, wine lover, dog lover, and a friend to ALL died on September 21, 2016 at 74 years old.

He had a life-long love affair with raw oysters, bacon, wine, cheese, and pickles. He hunted for many years but never killed anything. He spent 26 years leading the build out of almost every Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy. He gave unconditional love to his children and anyone that needed or wanted it.

He leaves behind his wife Kathy and their dog Bailey; 4 children, David Matthews Jr., Stephanie Wilson and her fiancée Brian Wilt, Phil Cazella and his wife Michelle, and Laura Siviter and her husband Mark; 8 grandchildren, Kelsey and Haley Wilson, Heather Price, Randi Fox, Brooke and Blake Siviter, Katie and Jacob Cazella; 4 great grandchildren, Kayla and Ethan Price, Jadyn and Rheanna Fox.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother June Elizabeth Matthews; his father Andrew Matthews; his brother Ronald Matthews; his son Timothy Matthews; his grandparents, Clara and Hunter Matthews; and Joe and Nellie Wilson.

Looking back at his life, you will find tragedy, pain, joy, but most importantly a man that looked at every single day as a chance to make people happy. Everyone that knew Dave, laughed with him. His jokes have filled our lives with laughter for decades and his ability to remember and deliver jokes flawlessly made our sides ache. Dave was a man of Great Faith in God. He has joined his mother and son in heaven where he will have his arms open when we arrive.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 25th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, WV.

The funeral will be held at Winchester Avenue Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 26th with Rev. Delancy Catlett officiating; burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

The church and family also invite guests back to the church for lunch after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Dave’s name to the ALS Association at http://www.alsa.org/.
