Rupert LaGarde  Armel
Rupert LaGarde Armel, 85, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Berkeley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 26, 1931 in Bunker Hill, he was the son of the late James Rupert and Carrie Viola Roberts Armel.
He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church since 1944.
He attended Martinsburg High School and was deployed prior to graduation and became a veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard 201st. He later retired from E.I. DuPont.
He was a member of the Lions' Club - Outstanding Melvin Jones Achievement Award. LaGarde enjoyed singing with the Apple Capitol Chorus, Sounds of Shenandoah, and Blue Gray Chorus.
He was an avid Martinsburg High Bulldog fan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christina Jane Miller Armel; three sons, Shannon L. Armel and wife, Vicki, of Conway, SC, William B. Armel and wife, Vickie, of Martinsburg and Bradley C. Armel of Charles Town; two daughters, Tresa Michelle Shanholtzer and husband, Craig, of Martinsburg and Amy N. Milburn and husband, "Dickie," of Gerrardstown; twelve grandchildren, Tommy Frederick (Jennifer), Brent Anderson (fiance' Stacia Rudman), Jennifer R. Armel, Andrea B. Jenkins (Shad), Zachary U. Frederick (Sarah), Jennifer N. Armel (Jerred Gray), Matthew S. Armel (fiance' Brittany Sullivan), Sarah E. Panek (Lee), Christopher B. Armel (Samantha), Cari L. Armel, Cody W. Armel and Andrew L. Milburn; six great grandchildren, Kobe Frederick, Christian Mazzeo, Collin Jenkins, Mia M. Panek, Olivia Gray and Micah J. Panek; and brother, Douglas B. Armel of Inwood. .
Family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Brown Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 12:30PM on Thursday, September 15 206 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with Rev. John R. Yost officiating. Military graveside service will be held in Rosedale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Martinsburg Lions Club, PO Box 2226, Martinsburg, WV 25402.
