Obituary for Mary Catherine "Babe" Payne (Cloud)

Mary Catherine Cloud Payne, also known as "Babe" to her family and friends, went to her final peaceful rest on September 14, 2015.

Born on July 3, 1931 in the little stone house down the hill from Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, Mary Catherine was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Elvira M. (Sperow) Cloud.

Mary Catherine was a graduate of Hedgesville High School, Class of 1949, and a life-long resident of Berkeley County. She was employed by JC Penneys for over 35 years and by Berkeley County Schools at James Rumsey Vocational Technical Center for 25 years. She was a life-long member of Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

Mary Catherine is survived by two sisters, Gladys Burcker and husband, Robert, and Rebecca James, one brother, C. James Cloud; three children, Catherine P. deLong and husband, Chris, Albuquerque, New Mexico, C. Benjamin Payne and wife, Patricia, and Elizabeth Payne all of Berkeley County. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Kelly deLong and Krista deLong, and five grandsons, Jason Payne, Timothy Payne, Adam Moore, Joshua Payne, and Nicholas Payne; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Williamson S. Payne and one of their children, Anne W. Payne, and a grandson Jeremy Nathanial Payne.
Mary Catherine was a world-class shopper and enjoyed drives, and a good meal with family and friends.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home. Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 6:00PM on Saturday.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:00PM at Falling Waters Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Rose Wayland officiating.
