Obituary for James Hays Wilcox

James Hays Wilcox, 92, of North Fort Myer, FL passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Berkeley Medical Center.

Born July 28, 1923 in Indianhead, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Clyde and Opal Gerhart Wilcox.

He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the Army 8th Air Corp and served as a navigator on a B24 during World War II.

After the war, he began working as an electrician for Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates at their coal mine in Sonman, Pennsylvania. However, he spent the majority of his career in southern West Virginia where he served as chief electrician of their mine at Keystone. He was the youngest person at the time to hold that position. After retirement, he became a "snowbird" wintering in North Fort Myers, Florida while spending summers in West Virginia, most recently Martinsburg.

He is survived by a son, Ronald Wilcox and wife, Joellen; and a daughter, Sharon Phillips and husband, Jody. His extended family includes his step-children, Billie Tennant and husband, Fred, Beverly Lloyd, Pat Travinski and husband, Don, and Willard Marple; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; his second wife, Esther; and two brothers, Delbert and Melvin Wilcox.

Memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Harmony United Methodist Church with Pastor Terri Cofiell officiating.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
