Obituary for Mary Jane Gano (Landis)

Mary Jane Landis Gano, 92, died on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at her daughter's home in Martinsburg under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born April 28, 1923 in Marlowe, she was the daughter of the late Robert N. Landis and Charlotte Kerns Landis. Because her mother died shortly after giving birth, she was raised by her father and paternal uncle, Andrew Landis and his wife, Grace.
She was a devoted, life-long member of Harmony United Methodist Church where her ancestors had been members since the early history of Harmony. Before her death, she was the oldest living, continuous member.
Raised next door to the church, she was active in the choir, church festivals, the Willing Workers and was one of the original members of the Drake Sunday School Class.
She attended Marlowe Grade School thru tenth grade and was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
In 1942, she married Morrison W. Gano and was a devoted wife for sixty-six years. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as an insurance clerk at Kings Daughters Hospital and Inter-County Health in Berkeley County.
Mrs. Gano was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing, interior decorating, oil painting and cross-stitching. She especially liked Ukranian Egg painting and left many beautiful examples.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Gano Frye and fiance Douglas C. DeHaven of Martinsburg and Brenda Kay Seabolt and husband Dan of Yorktown, VA; three grandchildren, Jason Bryce Frye, Dana Marie Seawell and husband, Joseph and Benjamin Lee Seabolt and wife Ashley; six great-grandchildren; Bryce T. Frye, Lee-Ann P. Frye, Raegan E. Seawell, Rory A. Seawell, Ryder G. Seawell, and Adam L. Seabolt; dear friend and sister-in-law, Rosalee Gano Ettinger and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including special niece, Mary Catherine Owens.
During her last years, she shared the devoted companionship of her canine friend, Casper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morrison Wagner Gano on July 28, 2008 and one brother, Robert N. Landis in 2012.
A memorial service will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church in Marlowe, WV on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11:00AM with Rev. Terrie S. Cofiell officiating. Private interment will be in Harmony Cemetery at a later date.
It was her request that any contributions be made to Harmony United Methodist Church, PO Box 1510, Falling Waters, WV 25419 or Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
