Obituary for Stephon Victor "Vic" Winston


After suffering a massive heart attack on Saturday, June 13, 2015, Stephon Victor Winston went home to be with the Lord.

Stephon Victor Winston, “AKA” James Roper’s son, was born on April 7, 1963 to the late Francis Virginia Winston and the late James Edward Roper. Also preceding him in death is his brother Douglas E. Roper. Stephon leaves behind his wife Sarah Lee Winston Jones, two sons Sedrick Winston (wife Deri) of Woodbridge, Virginia and Shawn Winston (wife Maria) of Columbia, South Carolina, and two daughters Nicole Winston of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Alyssa King of Martinsburg, West Virginia, two stepdaughters, Shantela Jones of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Shell’lyn Clarke of Fort Myers, Florida.

Stephon also leaves surviving three brothers Brian Winston (wife Carol), Bernard Winston (wife Kam) both of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Sterling Payton (companion Mark) of South Charleston, West Virginia, six sisters Patricia Gibson (husband Rodney), Tonya Rhoden, Tina Winston, Fontella Johnson (husband Salis) all of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Raymonda Porter (husband Rodney) of Kearneysville, West Virginia and Michelle Porter (husband Jeffrey) of Stephens City, Virginia. The love Stephon Winston had for his grandchildren was undeniable. His love will never be replaced by his grandchildren, Kaelen Evans, Savannah Winston, Taurean Winston, Areiyon Jones, Amar Dover, Arjon Dover and one godchild, Saraia Brooks.

After graduating from Jefferson High School in Charles Town, West Virginia in 1981, Stephon Victor Winston enlisted in the United States Army where he served for six years. He was a member of Destiny Baptist Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia. “Vic” was a hardworking man who didn’t mind working several jobs at a time to support his family. He was employed by Sino Swearingen Aircraft, Corporation for six years. His love for cooking was paramount. From his sauer kraut and pig tails down to his pork chops, Stepson’s’ dishes would make anyone want more. He loved his family and would give the shirt off of his back to family and friends. When you became a friend of Stephon Winston’s you knew you had a friend for life. He possessed a smile that was unforgettable. Stephon loved to “cut a rug” on the dance floor. Stephon Victor Winston will be missed by a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services are scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2015 at Destiny Baptist Church located at 115 N. Raleigh St., Martinsburg, West Virginia. Viewing: 12:00 – 1:00pm and services immediately following. The family will receive friends at the same location following the service.
