Obituary for J. David Partin

J. David "Dave" Partin, 78, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015.
Born March 1, 1936 in Kansas City, MO he was the youngest child of Marvin Luther and May Hope House Partin. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and earned the Eagle Scout Award. He left Kansas City when he was 19 to join the Coast Guard in which he served 20 years after graduating from the Coast Guard Academy in 1960 and later from the Naval Postgraduate School, retiring as Commander. He then worked at Georgetown University as Business Manager of the Athletic Department until 1992. He has lived in Martinsburg, WV since 1992.
He was very active in community organizations as a member of the Martinsburg Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and a board member of same, Treasurer and one of the original board members of Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle, long time volunteer for United Way and 1997 Volunteer of the Year, Trustee of the Martinsburg Library, long time volunteer of the IRS/AARP income tax program to provide free tax service to low income individuals and seniors, and a long time Red Cross blood donor.
He is survived by eight children, Michael Scott, Barbara McCully, Kevin Scott, Diana Timmerman, Heather Partin, Scott Partin, Brian Scott and Craig Partin; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Partin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hoffman Partin, and three siblings, Marvin Jr., Christine Nenno and Patricia Krueger.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:30 pm at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Farley officiating. His cremains will be used to form part of an artificial reef due to his love of the sea and scuba diving.
Family will receive friends from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm prior to service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Habitat for Humanity in lieu of flowers.
