Obituary for Alvin Douglas Newell

Alvin Douglas Newell, 52, of San Diego, CA (formerly of Martinsburg), went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Born December 7, 1961 in Berkeley County, WV he was the son of the late Jean Newell Green.

He was a veteran of the US Navy, a retired chef, and formerly had been a member of Dudley Baptist Church. He loved to play pinochle.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School Class of 1980.

Alvin loved his family and loved to cook and to be surrounded by his family and friends. He was a giver in life and liked to help people.

He is survived by a brother, Mike Waller of Florida; two sisters, Karen Newell and Cynthia L. Washington both of Martinsburg; a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00AM to 12:00 Noon at Destiny Baptist Church prior to services.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Noon at Destiny Baptist Church with Pastor Michael V. Norris officiating. Military graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
