Mary Orlis (Handley) McDonald, 84, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living.
Born August 1, 1930 in Sycamore, AL, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Ernest L. Handley, M.D. and Orlis (Seaton) Handley.
She was the business manager of J.E. McDonald & Sons, Inc. She was a member of the Arden United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 25 years, sang in the choir, and served on many committees. She was also a member of the Travel Club; an original member of the Berkeley County Planning Commission; was past president of the Extension Homemakers Club; was leader of the Arden 4-H Club; 4-H All Star and the WV 4-H Foundation; and was the First Lady of Berkeley County.
Additionally, she served as chairman for both the Board of Trustees of the United Methodist Women of Baltimore Conference, as well as the Board of Child Care of Baltimore Conference; and also served on the state PTA Board.
She is survived by two daughters, Leslie Ann Stilwell and husband, Randall Craig, of Inwood, and Johanna Lee Brenner and husband, Kim D. Bettendorf., of Iowa; one son, James Kenneth McDonald, Jr. and wife, Tami (Dean), of Martinsburg; eleven grandchildren, Abigail, Bryan, Jessica, Marianne, Allison, Cortney, Devin, Jordan, Jonathan, Robyn, and Cody; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lt. Col. James Kenneth "Ken" McDonald, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret); one brother, Ernest L. Handley, Jr.; and one sister, Jonoliver H. Sims.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Arden United Methodist Church with Pastor Sarah Andrews Schlieckert officiating. Interment will be in Arden United Methodist Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood and prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Arden United Methodist Church, 4464 Arden Nollville Road, Martinsburg, WV 25403 for stained glass window in the choir room in memory of Ken and Mary McDonald.
