Obituary for Samuel Edgar "Sarge" Boynton

Samuel Edgar "Sarge" Boynton, 86, of Martinsburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the VA Medical Center.

Born October 28, 1927 in Fall River, Massachusetts, he is the son of the late William and Mary McNulty Boynton and step-mother, Lucy Boynton.

Sarge was a veteran of the US Army where he retired as SSGT. He was a former member of the Martinsburg Combined Veterans Honor Guard; life-time member of VFW; former member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion, and Martinsburg Lions Club.

Sarge also retired from General Motors after 20 years of service.

He volunteered at the VA Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, and C-CAP.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he volunteered with the newsletter, the bulletin, and the celebrates.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Hall Boynton; one daughter, Debra Boynton; three step-daughters, Judith, Ronda, and Angela; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Milton Boynton.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Olson Boynton; his second wife, Betty Frances Boynton; one sister, Gertrude Cavanaugh; and three brothers, William, Raymond, and Theodore Boynton.

Family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00AM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Ronald Kreiensieck officiating. Military graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to VA Medical Center, CLCA - Palliative Care, 510 Butler Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25405 or St. John's Lutheran Church, In Honor of Samuel Boynton, 101 W. Martin Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Bearers will be Patrick Murphy, Daniel Propst, Dennis Sines, William Seymour, James Holmberg, and Christopher Ross.

Honorary bearers are Dennis Coffinberger and John Small.
