Obituary for Claude William Watson

Claude William Watson, 74, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the Meritus Medical Center.

Born November 10, 1939 in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late John Thomas Watson and Velda (LeHew) Watson.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and later was a police officer with the Martinsburg Police Department.

Claude (Pappy) retired from the Schmidt Baking Company where he was a district sales manager, and later retired from Martins Food Market gas station.

He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for over 60 years.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, class of 1958.

Claude is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice (Anderson) Watson; two sons, Mitchell Watson, of Keyser and Dwayne Watson and wife, Melissa, of Kitty Hawk, NC; one daughter, Shelly Lamp and husband, Jon, of Martinsburg; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy Watson.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John T. Watson, Jr., and Donald Watson; and one sister, Helen DeHaven.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Yost officiating.

Private military honors will be held at a later date at Rosedale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 700 New York Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
