Condolence From: Scott Dawley
Condolence: Steve was the youth pastor at the Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church in Wauwatosa, WI in the mid to late 1970's. He had a profound impact on a number of us back then, and he is remembered fondly by those of us who had the privilege of knowing him. Sad to hear of his passing. Thank you, God, for sharing Steve with us.

Condolence: Chaplain Jenks. Chaplain Jenks. Chaplain Jenks.

“Chaplain Jenks” became part of my daily vocabulary
at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center yet I knew him for no more than two years.

It would seem like Chaplain Jenks entered my life by accident. It was no accident. Everything happens for a reason.

Chaplain Jenks was a complete stranger to me at first, yet in no time at all, I trusted him, and opened up myself to him with my deepest secrets, my most painful moments, my proudest moments, and everything in between.

We discussed the good, the bad, and the ugly.
He helped me through so much yet that is as big of an understatement that you can find.

I am eternally grateful for everything Chaplain Jenks did for me and everything that he continues to do for me as a result our past experiences together.

I can only imagine him right now, smoking a Cuban cigar and rooting on the Packers.

I will miss him dearly.

Condolence: I would like to offer my deepest sympathies on the loss of Chaplain Jenks. He was a wonderful fount of wisdom, compassion and inspiration to me, especially during my difficult time at the Va Center when my father passed away. He was pastor for my dads funeral and would often visit and call me after he passed away. His belief in a better world and an afterlife closer to God was an enormous source of comfort to me, and I hope that it is for you as well during these difficult times. My dad loved gardening and Chaplain Jenks gave me a framed picture of a mans gardening items because he said it reminded him of my dad and he wanted me to have it. I will tresure it forever, and I have known him for over 20 years at the va center, he will be missed everyone enjoyed his jokes. May God bless you and your family during this time.

Condolence: It was my pleasure to work with Steve for over 20 years at the VA. I was the nurse manager on the Palliative Care unit for several of those years. Steve was a tremendous support for the dying veterans, their families and staff alike. His quick smile, tender compassion and ready wit will be missed. My prayers are for all the family. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and may the light of Your face shine on him forever. God bless.

Condolence: Nancy Elizabeth and Family, We are so sorry for your loss. We are unable to come to the viewing this evening because one of the granddaughters has a volleyball game in Chambersburg this evening, something we're sure Chaplain Steve would have enjoyed. Steve always had a smile for us, even when he wasn't firing on all cylinders. Our favorite episode with was when Steve helped us give Bob O'Conner a hard time because of Bob's Pink Shirt. Steve will be greatly missed.
May the Lord bless you and keep you. Steve & Olga Adams

Condolence: Dear Mrs. Jenks and Family: May it help in some small way to know that others are sharing the sorrow in your heart. I have known Chaplain Jenks for 9 years at the Martinsburg VA. He was such a delightful person, always happy, supportive and never ended a conversation without leaving you with a funny story or joke. He and my father, a Veteran who passed away at the VA in February, would have such a great time together as they were both such funny storytellers. I can just imagine that he and Dad have met up and are having a great time. Both loved cigars, too, and would often exchange their favorites. They also shared the same philosophy – go right up to someone and don’t give them a reason to not like you. I am sure he is right where he wants to be now and is continuing to be the delightful person I have known. I will miss him.

Condolence: Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Nancy and family, at this time of your great loss. We discovered Steve's passing while checking condolence messages for Pat, our beloved wife and mother -- whom we lost to cancer and kidney disease on Sept. 6. We still think of you folks when you were part of our church family at New Street UMC, Shepherdstown, for Steve's infectious use of humor throughout all his activities, and your good work with our Youth. But, especially, we remember Steve baptizing our grandson, Kaziah, with the assistance of our son, Jim, who was a Seminarian at the time. Kaz is now pursuing a Master of Music in Composition Degree at Syracuse University; God gave him a particular talent in music arranging and composing, and he is using it well. Pastor Jim is a Senior Pastor of a growing UMC church in the Honolulu suburb of Aiea [Aiea UMC], and has been here for Pat's final days and her passing, and has been a great comfort and help to all of us. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and remain with you, to support and sustain you during this time of loss of Steve.

Condolence: Chaplain Jenks was gracious to be a supply minister for our church, Grace Reformed UCC in Kearneysville in the early '80s. He brought witty stories that reinforced his sermon each Sunday he was with us. We still have one of the porcelain clowns he gave to the children during one of his children's messages. Our prayers follow all family and friends in this difficult time.
