Obituary for Vernon Royal "Johnny" Shade

A legacy is that which a person leaves behind to be remembered by, it is more than just the memory of a person’s profession, success or failures; it is the memory of the themes that governed a person’s life and the measure by the love they are surrounded by.

Vernon Royal (Johnny) Shade, 84, of Martinsburg went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at City Hospital.

Born January 30, 1930 in Martinsburg WV (Arden), he was the son of the late Vernon Royal and Florence May Lewis Shade.

Johnny is preceded in death by his brothers Charles, Arlington and Glenville Shade, and sisters Hilda Shade and Ruth Bennett.

He is survived by his wife, married in 1951 for 63 years, Norma Foltz Shade and his beloved companion Molly.
He is survived by his three children & their families Son, Dennis L Shade and wife Paula, with Amanda Shade and daughter Olivia Slusher; Ray Shade and wife Melody and children Elijah and Emily Shade. Daughter, Sandra (Sandy) and husband James Breeden, Jonathan Walters and wife Rheeanna and son Cody Refiel; Jennifer and Cory Baker and son Emerson.Daughter, Carolyn S Knight and husband Raymond with sons Layne Dunham and son Kaleb, Benjamin Dunham w/Clayton, Rylee and Dominic, and Bobbijo Kosko with companion Lance Baker and daughter Syanne. And a very special niece Joan Bennett and nephew Leroy Shade.

Listing his accomplishments, Vernon owned Shade’s (Orchards, Tractors and Lift Trucks) from 1955 to 1993.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 1:30PM at the funeral chapel with Pastor Jeff Miller and Pastor David Davis officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to John Hopkins Burn Center, Baltimore, MD.
