Robert Gerald  Ellis, Sr.
Robert Gerald Ellis, Sr., 86, of Winchester, VA passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Winchester Medical Center.
Born August 20, 1927 in Tamcliff, WV he was the son of the late Lloyd Chap and Bertha Snodgrass Ellis of Gilbert, WV.
With a tenth grade education Mr. Ellis started as an apprentice mechanic and later became a mechanic with the coal industries, was a foreman for I-64 from Milton, WV to Winchester, KY; 15 1/2 years with the US Steel in Gary, WV and Imported Hardwoods for James H. Harless for 22 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Geraldine Rose Piper Ellis; their children, Linda Stalnaker of Covington, KY, Patty Bruton and husband, Larry of Phoenix, AZ, Robert Ellis, Jr. and wife, Paula of Bowling Green, VA, Thelma Kaufmann and husband, George of Winchester, VA, Calvin Ellis and wife, Renee of Myersville, MD, and Joyce Dorn and husband, Mike, Sr. of Sterling, VA; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild to be born in August; two sisters, Billie Hatfield of Gilbert, WV and Merida Sue Helms and husband, Harvey of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Harry Ellis and wife, Marie of Gilbert, WV and John David (Davy) Ellis and wife, Geraldine of Omar, WV; and three sisters-in-law, Litty Ellis, Diane Ellis, and Carol Ellis.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Michael Stalnaker, Sr.; and three brothers, Donald, Ivan Eugene "Buck", and Clayton "Pate" Ellis.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 11:00AM at the funeral chapel with Bishop Todd Knecht of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiating, with receiving one hour prior to services. Entombment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
