Gladys J. McDaniel (Miltenberger)

Gladys J. McDaniel, 82, of Jones Spring, WV, left for her final journey in the arms of the angels on Friday, February 14, 2014 surrounded by her family at Berkeley Medical Center.
In recent years the Alzheimer's disease had robbed her of her busy lifestyle of always helping others, but the care of her loving and devoted husband Ken enabled her to spend her last years at her cherished home, enjoying her favorite past times of sitting on the porch, watching the clouds, the skinny trees and all of nature.
Born August 4, 1931, Gladys was the youngest of 14 children of the late George and Mary Miltenberger of Ridgley , WV. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Cumberland, MD and was a proud 1952 graduate of the City Hospital School of Nursing. She was so honored and pleased to be named Florence Nightengale in 2011 at the annual nursing celebration. She treasured her many friends from the nursing school and was blessed to have them forever in her life.
Gladys was employed at the City Hospital for 30 years and finished her official employment with 13 years working for Dr. Harvey Risenweber. Never really retiring, she spent many years in private duty nursing and she along with Ken enjoyed many years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Bloodmobile Red Cross, C-Cap, and her church, St. Bernadette's in Hedgesville.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth McDaniel, daughters and their husbands, Judy and Ken Michael, Joan and Tim Neely, Peggy and Michael Lance, all of Martinsburg; sons and their wives, Michael and Kathy McDaniel of Hedgesville, Doug and Linda McDaniel of Mercersburg, PA.
